Why should Michael Jackson, who was so famous, suffer from depression?

According to the Times of India dated 30th June, 2009, Michael Jackson weighed 50 kg at death, grossly underweight for a man 5 ft 10 in tall. His hips, thighs and shoulders were riddled with needle marks. He was totally emaciated, ate only one frugal meal a day. His stomach had no food; just semi-digested pills. He had lost most of his hair and covered his baldness with a wig. His haggard face was disfigured by 13 plastic surgeries. The bridge of his nose had crumbled Several of his ribs were found broken; a result of desperate attempts to pump his life back into his heart. There were 4 needle wounds near his heart, apparently from failed efforts to restart it by shooting adrenaline into it.

It is clear that like other famous star, Meena Kumari and famous film director, Guru Dutt, he too was suffering from depression.. He probably did not like his own face. That is why he resorted to having plastic surgeries. Now, the general view is that only that person suffers from depression who could not get his wishes fulfilled but Michael Jackson, Meena Kumari and Guru Dutt were all famous people and their wishes must have been fulfilled.

Omar Khayyam also says that a soul whose wishes have been fulfilled is in heaven while a soul whose wishes have not been fulfilled is in hell. So, it must be that the wishes of Michael Jackson, Meena Kumari, Guru Dutt etc. must not have been fulfilled. A research is needed to go into the details of the unfulfilled wishes of these great people. What do you think?

The first thing I thought is that you havent given credit to the ToI for having copy pasted their matl.  Second thing I thought wasthat maybe money doesnt buy happiness after all.. and maybe different ppl need different things to b happy.  Mikey prolly never got over his lost childhood and parental abuse..

when mind is not at rest at all times, then i guess that person is more suseptible to depression. having all the things of the world, fame, recognition, money ... and surely when one desires something, and one gets it, then his/her needs increase to "more" ... the character of desires/needs is such, that they grow "infinitely" unless one makes a conscious effort to subside them with "will" ...

the signs of a person being in high depression is that he just doesnt have "peace of mind" in his life at all !

MJ knows that he is very popular, and that his being "popular" made him to think that he cannot "afford" to remain incognito or loose his "relevance" in music industry ... so, i guess, he made a desparate attempt to "launch" himself again through his "new shows" ( in London ?) ... and the pressure to make it successful ... was too much for him to handle ... and he resorts to some "pills" for relief ... but unfortunately, depression, pressure to stay at the top, not eating anything, his deterioting financial condition (he stayed in a rented raunch right ?), his effort to make his upcoming shows a "Success", etc. ... becomes a deadly cocktail of depression ... and he succumbed !
