It has just been reported that a ship supposedly from Malta has been seized off the Tamil Nadu coast because of some anonymous caller reporting explosives or radioactive substances in it. Customs have seized the ship and scientists are being rushed in to do a check! Why do we have to rush our sceintists,  especially our nuclear scientists to unverified locations ? If we have to rush, then we better rush primarily with our guns pointed at it.

Anyways our Atomic stations our under threat as are our dhabas, and mohallas and everything else. Who knows what terrorists are planning against India? And there is no predicting as to what path or route or means or method terrorists would take for their next strike. They would want to take the most inconcievable and creative ways. Therefore, as far our internal security is concerened, we should err on side the doubting everything unless it gives a strong indication that it is harmless.

The ship has a Maltese flag -- so what? Malta is a key junction for all the illegal migrants for middle east and south asia who try to get into Europe. Will it be highly impossible to travel from Pakistan to somewhere in the middleast and Africa and then boat it to Malta? And then Boat back to Indian Coast? Have we forgotten a ship allegedly played an integral role in offloading Mumbai militants in our western coast. So let's not take anything at face value.

At the same time let's try not to fall into traps that might be set by terrorists with calls and provokations so that all our attention go to smaller pesky incidents and when we are looking intensely at something else, they get an opportunity to make a grand spectacle of their muderous intent in some other strategic place. The fact that they will try to do that is not unlikely. Was it in Jaipur or Delhi, that they first detonated a smaller bomb and then when everyone rushed in after that, they detonated a bigger one.

The home ministry should forewarn the people of this country with a list 'what to do and what not to do' on the public's part 'while a terrorist attack is taking place' Our propensity to gather at high risk places, specially after incidents is too high. Though often such people offer the first batch of rescue and relief, yet they could actually end up being victims themselves soon after or in many cases hamper 'trained' rescue and relief efforts. Any other well administered nation would have put various campaigns in place in one year after series of terrorist attacks but we seem to have learnt nothing and have done even less. Is that a lesser tragedy?
