Many of you must have read the story I am going to reproduce below:
"A stranger was seated next to a little
girl on the airplane. He turned to her and said, 'Let's talk. I've heard that flights
go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.'
The little girl, who had just opened
her book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, 'What would you like to talk about?' 'Oh, I don't know,' said the
stranger, 'how about nuclear power?'. Then he smiled patronisingly.
'OK, ' she said, 'that could be an
interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow and a deer all eat the same stuff, grass, and yet a deer excretes little pellets, a cow turns out a flat patty and a horse produces
clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?'
The stranger, visibly surprised by
the little girl's intelligence, muttered after a long pause, 'Hmmm, I have no idea.' To which the little girl replied, 'Do
you really feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know shit? ' "
The story is the disclaimer to this post. I am no economist like our genial prime minister. I am not a business analyst. I am an aam admi. Just like you. I am not qualified to pronounce judgment on the wisdom of the policies of our government for next five years.
Yet, like the little girl, I have a question first. The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) put money into several hands. These hands went and voted the 'hand' to power in order to get more money. And the 'hand' is obligated to put more money by invigorating NREGA, Rural Health Missions, Waiver of Small Enterprises and Artisans Loans, Stimulus for Rural Agro Industries, Special Incentives for Cottage, Khadi and Village Industries and so forth. From whose pockets is the 'hand' planning to pick this money from?
My fellow travellers, would you oblige me with an answer?
