Many are busy writing epitaph of united states of america.
Especially,
a) after the row about President Obama's bow in Japan.
b) after the capitulation by President Obama to Chinese pressures on every policy 'gap'
c) after unemployment shot into double digits and crossed 10.2% for the first time
d) after the stimulus seemed to be causing a 'jobless' recovery.
Among my visitors this week was a former CEO and a current Director in a high value adding Metal Engineering Technology & Engineered Products Business Enterprise. His business, located in the industrial north, did totter during the Clinton years; but took off with industrial-military focussed spending under Bush Administration. The upswing lasted till the global meltdown, last winter.
With the 'terrible' year behind, the enterprise is now hiring and hiring big. It is on 'M&A' mode and is looking for JV partners around the world. The guys recently roped in L&T in India for manufacturing for our own booming chemical and petrochemical industries. More JVs are expected in suitable countries to serve Southeast Asia, MENA region and Africa, the emerging industrial-manufacturing powerhouses.
Who gets hired? Those who have the education. Those who are willing to undergo "Engineering Rotational Development Program". And who leads the innovation of setting up overseas businesses, joint ventures, and using 'someone else's money' to finance riskier projects?
The much maligned and sneered at Amercians..
Don't cry for America. It is alive and kicking. It still has the cake and eats it too.
