Telenor’s purchase of a 60 per cent stake in Unitech Wireless for Rs 6,200 crore, in this financial downtime could not have come at a better time for Unitech Wireless's parent company, Unitech. Real estate industries are the one who are feeling the pinch most. However, there has been unusual fallout of this multi-crore deal.

Apparently, United Wireless has no assests aside from 3G spectrum license that it has bought from Telecom Ministry. So, based on the current deal, any 6th class student can tell us that Unitech Wireless has been valued at over Rs. 10K crore, just on basis of licence it has got. Company bought spectrum from the government at Rs 1,651 crore around 6 - 9 months back, So, there is a cool profit of over 800k crore. I wonder what profit they might have earned if market conditions were better.

Blame game has already started. It is a scam, opposing parties are bound to claim. Ministry is trying to put the blame on TRAI's and D. Raja is claiming that first come first serve is a TRAI recommended policy. However, TRAI has responded that it has never recommended such a policy. And like always, an angle of caste policy has been added by DMK's claim that Raja is being victimised because he is a Dalit. Wow!!

India is the hottest thing in the telecom world right now and I think you have to be really stupid to sell anything on a First come First basis in such a market. So, if there is no scam, then there is plain inefficency on part of Raja and his team. Either way, he should take moral responsibility and resign. With elections just round the corner, this wont be a bad idea to take moral highground.
